Garnet

Garnet is a natural mineral of the silicate group, known for its wide range of colours, from deep red to emerald green, taking in orange and brown along the way. Its general chemical formula is X3Y2(SiO4)3, where X may be calcium, magnesium or iron, and Y aluminium, iron or chromium, depending on the species.

Its cubic crystal structure gives garnet a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and a remarkable resistance to impact and wear. This robustness, combined with its high brilliance and variable transparency, allows it to retain its lustre and physical properties even after prolonged use.
