Malaya Garnet

Malaya garnet is a natural variety of garnet belonging to the silicate group, formed by a complex blend of pyrope, spessartite and almandine garnets. It stands out for its unique, shifting colours, ranging from orangey pink to peach, salmon, orange or sometimes slightly purplish, depending on its chemical composition.

Its chemical formula is a variable solid solution between Mg₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃, Mn₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃ and Fe₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃, which accounts for the wide diversity of its hues. Its cubic crystal structure gives it a hardness of between 7 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale, with good resistance to abrasion.

Valued for its high brilliance, its often remarkable transparency and its warm, rare shades, malaya garnet is a highly sought-after stone in jewellery. It retains its lustre and physical properties over time, even with daily wear.
