Rhodolite Garnet

Rhodolite garnet is an intermediate member of the isomorphous pyrope-almandine series within the garnet group. Its pink to purplish-red tones, sometimes described as raspberry or magenta, come from ferrous iron in its structure, with magnesium lightening the colour compared with a pure almandine.

The most common inclusions are rutile needles and small transparent crystals, useful in confirming a natural origin.

Transparent to translucent, it displays a bright vitreous lustre and high hardness. These qualities make it a highly prized stone in jewellery, one that retains its polish and physical properties even with daily wear. The main sources are Tanzania, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
