Mali garnet is a rare variety within the garnet group, from the intermediate series between the grossular and andradite end members, which accounts for its particular optical characteristics.

Its colour generally ranges from greenish yellow to yellowish green, sometimes with golden nuances depending on the chemical composition and the crystal structure of the stone. This palette is often accompanied by a remarkable luminosity and a fine evenness.

This gem is distinguished by excellent dispersion of light, strong brilliance and good transparency. Its vivid fire, combined with its relative rarity, makes it a stone particularly valued in fine jewellery.

It ranks among the fine gemstones sought after for their luminous yellow-green tones, alongside chrysoberyl, peridot, tsavorite garnet and yellow sapphire.
