Pink sapphire is a natural variety of corundum belonging to the oxide group, the same mineral family as blue sapphires and rubies. It stands out for its hues ranging from pale pink to vivid pink, sometimes slightly violet, caused by traces of chromium in its crystal structure.
Its chemical formula is Al₂O₃ (aluminium oxide). Its rhombohedral crystal structure gives it an exceptional hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, making pink sapphire a very resistant stone suited to everyday wear.
Prized for its high brilliance, its great durability and its delicate, elegant shades, pink sapphire is a stone that is highly sought after in fine jewellery. It retains its lustre and its physical properties over time, even after prolonged wear.
